The Panamera is Porsche’s fourth model. It is a five door car- four doors plus one boot. It is a sports saloon. It is a typical Porsche car with all features. It’s looks are sporty and provides great comfort. The Panamera looks like the flattened version of Porsche’s popular SUV, the Cayenne. It is a very huge car when compared to the other Porsche sport cars. Porsche claims the Panamera will perform like a sports car even though it’s a saloon. Engine capable of anything between 300bhp and 500bhp will be produced. The standard versions will have the power output in the rear wheels but the top end version will feature an all wheel drive arrangement.porsche_panamera

The Panamera will be very much successful in a country where economy of the vehicle is considered to be a prime factor. If the Panamera is attractively priced Porsche is sure to draw a large number of customers as the Panamera seems to be a practical everyday car. It can decently seat four people and so many people may consider buying it.

Coming to the technical part, the Veyron’s mid-engine has a massive 16 cylinder engine with 8 in a row. There are 4 valves per cylinder. There are a whooping 10 radiators in the car. The car also has the fastest acceleration and braking time. The 0-100 time taken by the Veyron is just 8 seconds. The car also has the best acceleration in any production car with a 0-100 acceleration of 2.64 seconds. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with paddles which take under 150 ms to change gears. The top speed of the car was originally claimed to be 420 km/hr but due to stability problems, it was finally 408 km/hr. This is the best and most exclusive set of wheels one can lay his hands on.

Turbocharger

October 3, 2009 Leave a comment

A Turbocharger is basically used to increase the performance of the engine. It pumps in more air into the cylinders for combustion. This increases the output. A turbocharger has an air intake and a turbine. Exhaust gases from the car are used to rotate the turbine. The turbine rotates at speed of up to 150,000 rpm. So the turbine is made of special materials to reduce friction and to withstand high temperatures of the exhaust gases. The turbine sucks in air which is then compressed. This is then given into the engine. The compressed air is cooled to increase the number of air molecules. The increased amount of air in the engine along with an increased amount of fuel will produce a greater engine power.

One of the disadvantages of a turbocharger is the turbo lag. You don’t get the boost as soon as you step on the gas. The turbine is rotated by the exhaust gases. So the boost is not an instantaneous process. But turbo lag can be reduced by using smaller sized turbochargers. The previous generation cars used carburetors, which increased the amount of fuel fed into the engine corresponding to the amount of air. But in the present-day, cars which employ fuel injection technology, have to make some modifications while fitting turbochargers.
